Chapter 3. Monitoring Diskspace

BillMax does not monitor diskspace. However, it is important that diskspace be monitored as if not enough diskspace is available, BillMax processes may fail in unexpected ways.

In general, a UNIX operating system will reserve 10% of a disk for its use. This reserved area is accessible by the superuser root, but not by other processes. If disk usage exceeds 90%, it is possible for BillMax processes that are executed as root to be successful. Other BillMax applications, such as the Staff Interface, may fail. This may be true even if there are large amount of absolute disk space available, i.e 8GB of a 100GB disk is still available.
